Ibermumbai showcased world cinema in Mumbai

Ibermumbai

An initiative of the Embassy of Spain and supported by the Iberoamerican Embassies in India, Ibermumbai successfully organised the Indo – Spanish Film Festival for 6 days. Various interactive meetings and film screenings were held with the aim to promote the exchange of ideas and bridging the cinematographic divide between the two countries.

The Embassy of Spain invited around 12 key participants from the Spanish speaking world to India along with selected well known Indian directors. Participants screened films from across countries like Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Portugal and Peru.

A total of 29 films were screened at Whistling Woods with screenings of popular films like Camarόn by Jaime Chávarri, The Forest by Ashvin Kumar, Call for a Postman, a popular film of Uruguay by Brummell Pommerenk, Dharm by Vibha Singh left the audience mesmerized by such creative work of directors from all the countries participating in the festival. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the whole film festival and the students of Whistling Woods felt that it was rather an inspiring film festival that they have ever seen.

Noted Indian film director Shekhar Kapur and top Spanish director Jaime Chávarri were the key patrons of the unique event. Other prominent attendees included well known names like award winning Film Director, Ashvin Kumar(of Little Terrorist fame); Director of Casa de la India (India House) Guillermo Rodríguez; Spanish Director and scriptwriter Joaquín Oristrell; Spanish Film Producer Beatriz de la Gándara, and the Cultural Adviser to the Spanish Embassy in India, Gisela Serrano.
